Apply for IISR-DBT Training Program in Bioinformatics for Whole Genome sequencing | January 27-30, 2016

The Bioinformatics Centre at IISR, under the Biotechnology Information System Network (BtisNet) programme of DBT was started in January 2000 to focus on spices research. The Centre is known for its sound training programmes and the pioneering initiatives in Agri-Bioinformatics. The Centre has excellent class rooms, computer lab and high performance computing (HPC) facility for NGS data analysis.

The Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode (Calicut) is a constituent body of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is a major Institute devoted to research on spices. Established in 1975 as a Regional Station of CPCRI, it was upgraded to full-fledged institute in 1995. It is located in Kozhikode (Calicut) district of Kerala.

Objectives

To provide hands on training on whole genome sequencing data analysis and annotation using Bioinformatics tools.

Contents

1. QC and sequence trimming of raw read data

2. Alignment and assembly

3. Variant annotation

4. De-novo assembly

5. Structural and functional annotation

Who can attend?

The programme is intended for scientists, researchers and Ph.D. Scholars actively engaged in Biotechnology / molecular biology research and who are keen to learn about Bioinformatics applications. A prior knowledge of basic Linux commands is desirable.

How to apply? Interested candidates are requested to apply through online application form available in our website (www.spices.res.in /www.spicebioinfo.res.in). Those selected candidates will be intimated through e-mail and have to send the registration fee along with the nomination letter from head of the institutions/ department by the prescribed date.

 

VENUE & ACCOMMODATION

Bioinformatics Centre, Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut will be the main venue of the training program. Accommodation will be arranged on request in Sougandhikam the scientist hostel of the institute. Weather conditions during the period are quite pleasant and hence there is no need of any special clothing. The temperature will be in the range of 22 - 26°C.

With Accommodation: Rs.2000/-

Without Accommodation: Nil

Category 2: University, State & Central govt. staff

With Accommodation: Rs.3000/-

Without Accommodation: Rs.1000/-

Category 3: Others

With Accommodation: Rs.5000/-

Without Accommodation: Rs.3000/-

Registration fees should be sent as DD in favor of ‘ICAR Unit, IISR, Calicut’ payable at Calicut. Registration fees are inclusive of training kit, refreshment and a working lunch on all training days.
