Job description:
Primary Responsibilities Include:
• Perform, oversee and ensure accurate analysis of all food and pharma products
• Ensure good laboratory practices are followed
• Prepare and standardize chemical solutions and media
• Ensure lab equipment is functional and in calibration
• Maintain schedules for equipment maintenance and calibration
• Perform method development and validation for new methods/technology and/or products
• Keep testing methods and procedures up-to-date per required timelines
• Complete validation and suitability studies for existing methods
• Stay current with new technology, testing methods and regulations
• Maintain lab ISO 17025 accreditation and process water lab IDNR certification
• Assist with training of new and existing lab employees
• Perform microbiological and food safety training at departmental meetings or other meetings when needed
• Promote employee participation in continuous improvement
• Review analytical data to monitor results for process trends or needed training
• Emphasize, practice and enforce lab, chemical, and biological safety practices
• Work with QA on review of specifications, provide guidance on micro testing and assist with troubleshooting of customer issues
• Liaise with colleagues from other departments (including production, sales, R&D)
• Provide assistance to the facility with troubleshooting process microbiological and/or food safety issues
• Track microorganisms in a range of environments and test using a variety of identification methods, including molecular techniques.
• B.S. or M.S. in Microbiology
Required Experience:
• 5 years of work experience in a microbiological testing lab with working knowledge of bacteriological standard methods
• Knowledge of Food Safety regulations including GMPs, and HACCP/HARPC
• 2 years of experience supervising personnel
• Experience with providing effective training to others on microbiological and food safety topics
• Knowledge of the ISO 17025 standard and good laboratory practices
