Salary:£14421 to £15765 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
An opportunity has arisen for a technician to join the Bioprocess, Environmental and Chemical Technologies Research Group to support research activities and wider technician general duties. The main activity of the group is Biotechnology research, and includes Microbiology, enzymology, molecular biology, analytical chemistry, catalysis and some synthetic chemistry. The main aim of the group is to develop biocatalytic routes to manufacture chemicals and biofuels.
Duties will include:
• Providing technical support to the Bioprocess, Environmental and Chemical Technologies Research Group as directed, and as training allows.
• General lab duties, including media and reagents preparation, maintaining consumables stock levels, glass washing, collection and safe disposal of biological and chemical hazardous waste materials and research materials.
• Assisting in the maintenance of analytical Instruments, as skills and training allow.
• Working with the student supervision team to support training and safety of students, and good laboratory practice.
• Supporting curation of microorganisms, genetic material and Enzymes developed by the group, as skills and training allow.
• Assisting with maintenance of inventories of equipment and chemicals.
Depending on previous experience or training, there may also be opportunities to work on research projects
Candidates must have a good standard of education, with a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at level C or above or significant work experience in relevant role. Candidates should be computer literate and ideally have some basic equipment maintenance experience. Experience of working in a biological science laboratory is also desirable but not essential. A flexible approach and the ability to communicate are both essential. Training will be provided where required.
