To strengthen ongoing conservation efforts to safeguard the future of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) in captivity and in the wild, the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites application for Walk-in-interview for engaging Senior Project Biologist (Three Positions) for the project entitled “Partnering to support Gir Lion Conservation in Gujarat” purely on contractual basis for a period of one year which is extendable depending upon the performance.
- Position : Senior Project Biologist
- No of Post : One
- Desired Profile : Master’s degree in Forestry/Wildlife Science/ Zoology /Life Science with 60% aggregated marks and above from a recognized university. Minimum Two Year Research Experience.
- Preferred : Research experience in the field of animal ecology, behavioural sciences, population management,
understanding of management of captive animals and in-situ and ex-situ conservation.
- Fellowship : Rs.28,000/- + HRA
- Age : Not exceeding 30 years as on the date of interview. Upper age limit in case of applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ and Physically handicapped categories may be relaxed as per the rules.
Description of job :
- Training Gujarat Forest Department officials and staff in monitoring ecological parameters as well as wildlife crimes throughout the GCA and ensure the information from the patrols informs management actions.
- Define needs and site resources - Stakeholder workshop (finalise data structure, data collection forms, protocols and reporting templates)
- Ranger and trainers training in use of data forms, data collection protocols and other enforcement skills (training of trainers)
- Pilot implementation of field data forms
- Train user(s) at site level (data entry, quality control, processing and report generation
- Assessment of existing and modified husbandry and enclosure design in Sakkarbaug Zoo and Devalia Interpretation Centre
- Prescribing improved husbandry protocols and enclosure design at Sakkarbaug Zoo and Devalia Interpretation Centre
- Assessment of hormonal profiles of captive animals for improved conservation
breeding and better welfare
- Training of zoo personnel in improved animal husbandry practices
- Developing Species Recovery and Conservation Breeding Plan
