Department of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics :
- Department of Biochemistry was established in 2001 and is offering M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics.
- The areas of research in Biochemistry include Enzymology, Immunology, Plant Biotechnology, Clinical Biochemistry, Fungal Biology, Cancer Biology, RNAi Technology and Bioactive compounds from medicinal
plants and marine sources as thrust area. The faculty published 120 research papers in National and International journals of repute. The areas of research in Bioinformatics include Structural Bioinformatics, Drug Designing and Evolutionary Bioinformatics with emphasis on drug designing. The faculty published 100 research papers in National and International journals of repute.
- The Department received twelve major research projects (ongoing) from funding agencies like DBT, DST, UGC and DRDO worth of Rs. 2.25 crores. In addition to research grants, the School of Life Sciences is supported with FIST (Funds for Infrastructure) by DST, New Delhi,
- CSIR-NET and DST- Inspire Junior Research Fellowship Awardees from the department have joined for Ph.D. in reputed National institutes. The students of this department are the recipients of University gold medal successively from inception to date in GITAM Institute of Science. A significant number of students are pursuing post-doctoral research and higher degrees in advanced research labs both in India and Abroad. Our ALUMNI occupied pivotal positions in reputed organizations such as Bioserve, NIN, IILs, ICMR, Dr. Reddys’ laboratories and Shantha Biotech.
About Conference : NTCDR – 2015, conference provides the exchange of ideas between scientists of different backgrounds from around the country and to provide a forum for the dissemination of the latest scientific information on natural therapeutics in health and disease relating to most frequent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). With rapid progression of molecular biology, genomics, proteomics and the subsequent emergence of many new targets in biomedical sciences, natural therapeutics provide new opportunities for the prevention and treatment of cancer, diabetes and renal diseases. The two day conference facilitates exchange of biomedical intelligence on natural therapeutics in the regulation of various metabolic pathways pertaining to cancer, diabetes, renal diseases etc. The conference also emphasizes on bioinformatic
approaches in identifying drug targets and propagation of plants with known therapeutic values

Date and Venue : The conference is scheduled to be held on March 27th & 28th, 2015 in the Department of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics, GITAM Institute of Science, GITAM University, Visakhapatnam – 530 045.
Call for Papers : Authors are requested to submit their original research contribution in the form of abstract (about 250 words) with 1.5 spacing, alignment with justification, along with authors name, designation, affiliation, e-mail ID and keywords by e-mail to ntcdr2015@gmail.com.
