The National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology (NRCPB) was established in 1985 with a vision to impart the Biotechnology advantage to the much-needed thrust to Indian Agriculture. The Centre had adopted relatively softer option of tissue culture based research in its infancy in view of the build-uptime required for a strong self-sustaining infrastructure. Today almost a decade later, it stands poised to deliver impact-making results of research being pursued in upfront areas of plant Biotechnology
