NATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME ON ADVANCED TOOLS FOR ANALYSIS OF PHENOMIC AND GENOMIC DATA
(March 5- 25, 2015)
Organized by
CENTRE OF ADVANCED FACULTY TRAINING
(ANIMAL GENETICS AND BREEDING)
ICAR-NATIONAL DAIRY RESEARCH INSTITUTE
- National Training Programme on “ADVANCED TOOLS FOR ANALYSIS OF PHENOMIC AND GENOMIC DATA” is being organized under the aegis of Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Animal Genetics and Breeding at Division of Dairy Cattle Breeding, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal (Haryana) from 5th March to 25th March 2015. The DCB Division has been recognized by ICAR during the third consecutive Five Year Plan as Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Animal Genetics and Breeding (formerly known Centre of Advanced Studies in AG&B). After successfully organizing 30 National Training Programmes on various aspects of AG&B, we wish to welcome you for the 31st National Training Programme at this premier Institution.
- Phenotype based animal breeding has been slow in terms of rate of genetic gain and further with compromised accuracy for low heritable traits. The advent of genomic era has laid a strong foundation for development of new areas of endeavour viz. genomics, proteomics, system biology etc. The cutting edge biological research in this era lies in the ability to combine both phenotype and DNA markers based computational approaches in a synergetic manner. The proposed training programme aims at educating the participants about various advanced tools (Softwares) for analysis of phenomic and genomic data. The course content has been designed in such a way that it will be very comprehensive for NARES faculties to conceptualize the NGS (Next generation Sequencing) data generation, DNA marker discovery (STR and SNP), diversity analysis, DNA signature of animal breeds, allele mining approach and SNP selection for SNP chip and statistical approach for GWAS.
- The participants attending this training programme will have the opportunity of getting on-bench practical training in different aspects of generation and analysis of phenomic and genomic data. The application of software packages like SAS, SYSTAT, LSML Micro-soft Excel, WOMBAT etc. shall be taken up in practical sessions. The theory lectures will also be delivered by invited subject matter specialists on harmonization of phenomic and genomic data analysis for overall improvement of farm animals. The participants are also required to deliver a talk on the topic related to their present research work for effective interaction among faculty and participants
