IISER Kolkata notifying for position in Computational Biology project

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH Kolkata (IISERKolkata) was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. IISERKolkata is designed to reach the prestigious position in the global setting that IISc, IIMs and IITs presently enjoy.  IISERKolkata is an autonomous institution awarding its own degrees. The central theme of the IISERKolkata is to integrate education with research so that undergraduate teaching as well as doctoral and postdoctoral research work could be carried out in symbiosis.

  • Desired Profile : M.Sc/M.Tech in Bioinformatics/Computer Science/Biology/Biotechnology and other related fields AND Good programming skills with experience in Python/Perl programming.
  • Preferred : Experience in Bioinformatics projects related to regulatory RNA and phylogenetic analysis. GATE or NET qualification is also desirable and may determine the fellowship amount as stipulated by UGC rules.

This is an international project jointly funded by UGC-ISF (Israel Science Foundation). The selected candidate will have the opportunity to spend a total of 4 months (spread over 3 years) visiting the group of the Israeli PI, Dr. Danny Barash, Dept. of Computer Science, Ben-Gurion University, to be trained in structure-based techniques of riboswitch detection. The selected candidate will be required to carry out comparative genomics analysis using phylogenetic and other sequence based methods as well as apply structure-based techniques to analyze RNA. He/she will therefore be able to develop comprehensive skills in both sequence and structure-based methods.
