PhD position at the Institute of Virology, Saarland University Homburg/Saar, Germany

We are looking for a highly motivated co-worker with strong research interest in molecular virology and Cell Biology.

  • Project : Stem cells, human papillomaviruses and cancer development
  • Project Description : Our group focuses on the impact of human papillomavirus infection in carcinogenesis (Schröer et al. Cancer Research, 2011; Sperling et al. PLoS Pathogens, 2012; Pahne-Zeppenfeld et al., Int. J Cancer, 2014). We use a wide range of Cell Biology, virology and immunological techniques to identify the key mechanisms of virus-induced carcinogenesis. These include organotypic 3-dimensional tissue culture models, retroviral gene transfer, micro-RNA-analysis, ChIP, zymography, flow Cytometry and gene expression analysis. An excellent international scientific environment is provided and the close collaboration with clinical departments facilitates translation of research results into novel therapeutic strategies against cervical cancer. 
  • Requirement : Candidates should have a strong interest in virology and a very good background in (stem) Cell Biology. Excellent English communication skills (written and oral) are expected. A sincere desire to understand basic mechanisms in cancer biology, interest in translational research and in developing novel therapies against cancer is a prerequisite. Applicants should hold a master, diploma or equivalent degree in biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline. 
  • The position is available from 01.01.2015.
