Job Description:Scientist 1 - Q Kit Assay Development

POSITION SUMMARY

The responsibilities of this position are to work with a team of scientists developing high quality immunoassay products.  Responsibilities include planning and executing experiments to design, optimize, and validate new Assay products.  Other duties include data analysis, literature searches, and evaluating new technologies for Assay product applications.  Perform additional duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design and carry out experiments leading to the development of new Assay products and improved existing products.
  • Discuss findings with lab manager and peers and provide recommendations for future experimentation.
  • Maintain and gain knowledge in immunoassay development. Read appropriate literature.
  • Interact with other departments to collaborate in product development.
  • Train others in Assay technology.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Handbook and follows guidelines regarding safety as outlined in the AWAIR, Chemical Hygiene and Exposure Control manuals in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

This position requires a PhD degree in Immunology, Biochemistry, or equivalent with a minimum of 0 to 5 years’ experience.  Must have strong working knowledge of scientific principles and proven project management capabilities.  Excellent problem-solving skills, organization, attention-to-detail, and communication skills both verbally and in writing are required.  Prior experience developing immunoassays is highly desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are required.  Computer entry and/or typing skills are desirable.  Must be able to work in a fast pace environment and multi task.

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of safety and company procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of planned approach.
  • Knowledge of products and requirements by customers.
  • In-depth scientific knowledge to understand literature.
  • Skills in literature search & decision making.
  • Skills in problem solving; including the ability to identify and appropriately evaluate a course of action. 
  • Skills in leadership.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to interact with scientists from various departments to gain ideas for array products.
  • Ability to act independently on routine assignments or projects.
  • Ability to plan, organize and multi-task to complete assignments in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both oral and written.
  • Ability to pay attention to details and perform at a high level accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to work hours that conform to standard business operations (8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.)

Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD or better in Biochemistry or related field.
  • Less than 5 years: Laboratory experience

    Strong working knowledge of scientific principles and proven project management capabilities.
