About the Company:
SyntheZyme LLC, located close to Albany N.Y, New York States Capital City, is an integrated renewable products company using breakthrough science and an innovative business model to address some of our planet’s most challenging problems. SyntheZyme first developed its technology platforms in w-HydroxyFatty Acids and Biosurfactants in the laboratory of Professor Richard A. Gross (RPI, Troy N.Y.). These renewable chemical products are the result of SyntheZyme’s focus on bridging competencies of synthetic biology, yeast fermentation technology, chemistry and application development research. At SyntheZyme, we are committed to delivering renewable chemicals that are designed to perform comparably to, or better than, the products they will replace.
Job Description:
SyntheZyme, a dynamic small business located close to Albany New York, is seeking a fermentation scientist to evaluate engineered strains through parallel fermentation and perform fermentation process optimization for scale-up.
Experience with fermentation process scale-up/scale-down as well as fermentation medium and process design is highly desired. We are seeking an energetic, creative, and highly self-motivated individual that enjoys challenges in fermentation development involving different fermentation scales, and develops processes that can be readily scaled-up.
The successful candidate will interact closely with other SyntheZyme researchers that are addressing application development of fermentation products in materials, agricultural product and surfactant/emulsification technologies.
Requirements:
- Excellent skills in Microbiology
- Ability to plan, execute, and analyze parallel fermentation processes and fermentation process development experiments
- Apply the latest knowledge of microbial physiology, secondary metabolism and biosynthetic pathways to media design and process optimization.
- Provide feedback and collaborate with analytical chemists and application scientists at SyntheZyme and partnering institutions working in synthetic/molecular biology for strain optimization.
- Use scientific literature to address questions in strain assessment and fermentation process development.
Qualifications and Experience:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemical engineering, Chemical engineering, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on microbial fermentation experience as well as experience in monitoring critical fermentation parameters.
- Ability to work independently.
- Due to the highly collaborative nature of the position, excellent interpersonal and communications skills are an essential characteristic of a successful candidate.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships while collaborating with other scientists, engineers, and technicians in fermentation and process development Strong organizational, problem solving, and time-management skills are essential
Other experience that would be desired:
- Experience in rational and statistical design of experiments related to fermentation media optimization and process improvement is highly desirable
- Experience with fermentation processes scale-up/scale-down experiments is desirable
How to Apply:
Qualified candidates should forward a cover letter, resume, pdf copies of publications/patents and a brief statement of interest to Dr. Richard A. Gross at grossr@rpi.edu
