Job Role:
You will be responsible for completing research as part of a project to investigate aspects of gene regulation in the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This will involve two main tasks. Task one will be to carry out additional experiments required to complete our work characterizing the transcription factor Cmr (Rv1675c). This will involve purification of the Cmr Protein and determining its ability to regulate transcription in vitro in response to potential regulatory signals. Task two will require applying similar techniques to investigate the roles of multiple regulators in controlling the expression of a type VII secretion system.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out the microbiological aspects of the research programme funded by BBSRC.
- Liaise with researchers from a range of collaborative areas within the University, HE sector and beyond.
- Design and execute experiments, analyse and record data, with a view to presenting the findings in scientific publications, to commercial partners and sponsors.
- Maintain a systematic record of scientific outcomes.
- Prepare papers for journals/presentations either in-house or at national/international conferences or seminars to disseminate research findings.
- Read academic papers, journals and textbooks and attend conferences to keep abreast of developments.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Have a PhD degree in Microbial Biochemistry, preferably working with transcription factor proteins (or have equivalent experience)
