A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (Overseas)
This four-year scholarship comprises two years of PhD studies at an A*STAR Research Institute and another two years at a select top overseas university to enrich students’ academic experience. Under this PhD research training, students will be mentored by a Professor from the selected university and a senior member of an A*STAR Research Institute. Successful students will be conferred a PhD degree by the select university. Students may be required to undergo a one-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute prior to your PhD studies.
Eligibility
- Singaporeans and other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship.
- Satisfy criteria for PhD admission to universities
- Graduates with 1st Class Honours; or Graduates with 2nd Upper Class Honours
- Good O and A level track records/Polytechnic students who obtained a Diploma with Merit will also be considered.
- Candidates must not concurrently hold any other scholarships or fellowships
- Successful candidates are required to undergo a one-year research attachment at an A*STAR RI, prior to their PhD studies
- Awardees are expected to sit for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and attain at least a score of:
- Combined Verbal and Quantitative - 319
- Analytical Writing - 4.5

- Successful candidates will be given support for up to 4 years of academic pursuit.
- Successful candidates will receive:
- Monthly overseas living allowance
- Monthly sustenance allowance
- Full tuition
- Other allowances including
- computer allowance
- thesis allowance
- book allowance
- conference allowance
- travel allowance
- subsistence allowance
NB:*All rates/allowances are subject to adjustments by A*STAR from time to time
Service Commitment
Upon completion of their studies, candidates will return to contribute to A*STAR's RIs for a service commitment period of three years.

Applicants can choose to undertake a collaborative project that are currently available. Please click here for a list of updated AGS (Overseas) projects. Applicants should contact the prospective PhD advisors to learn more about the project before applying for the scholarship.
Applicants can also propose to form a new collaborative project by contacting the prospective PhD advisors from one of the partner universities and A*STAR research institutes directly. Applicants will be required to state this new collaborative project and the details in the scholarship application form.
