Postdoctoral Positions in statistical genetics, genome informatics and computational biology are available in the Beyster Center for Genomics of Psychiatric Disease and the Institute for Genomic Medicine at UC San Diego

  • Position : Postdoc
  • No of Post : One
  • Description : Laboratory is developing novel approaches for the identification of risk genes for neuropsychiatric disorders, and we are initiating a new study focused on understanding the contribution of germline mutation to disease risk in Autism. We seek to understand the genetic basis of disease by Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) in families, and by integrating data on de novo mutation and inherited genetic variation, including copy number variants (CNVs), nucleotide substitutions and indels

Other :

  • Central to these studies is the development and application of new Bioinformatics approaches to the analysis of large genomic datasets including
  • Statistical and Bioinformatic methods for the identification of risk genes by analysis of large whole genome sequencing datasets.
  • Integrating genetic data with functional genomic datasets to identify causal

genetic variants in non-coding functional elements

  • Analysis of patient genomic and clinical data to define biologically meaningful diagnostic categories.

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated computational scientist to serve as a lead analyst on our high-throughput sequencing studies of autism and schizophrenia. Excellent bioinformatic and programming skills, a background in genomics and a strong publication record are required. A 25% salary increase is given to postdoc appointees that are successful in obtaining a postdoctoral fellowship.
