- Thiagarajar College : Thiagarajar College, Madurai, one of the premier institutions on Madurai, eas established in 1949 by Thiru. Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar. The college was conferred with autonomy status in June 1987 by the UGC. The college offers 14 UG and 13 PG courses, 8 M.Phil courses and Doctoral Studies in the Departments of Tamil, English, Economics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. The college has been re-accredited with "A" grade by NAAC in the third cycle. Employability along with academic excellence and character development is teh focal point of the college. It aims to spread quality education, fostering excellence in research and promoting academic inquiry.
- Department of Botany : The Department of Botany enjoys the status of one of the best performing departments of the college. It has progressed steadily by introducing B.Sc Botany in 1965, M.ScBotany in 1979 and M.Phil in 1985 and B.Sc Biotechnology in 2001. Twenty two docotrates have been produced from our research laboratory and deveral research scholars (both full and part time) are currently working for their PhD degree. The department is undertaking a number of research projects sponsored by various Central Government agencies such as CSIR, DBT, UGC, MoEF etc. The department is DST FIST sponsored since 2005 and received funding from DBT Star College Scheme during 2010-2014. As a part of its golden jubilee year celeberations, the department is organizing a national conference on "Recent trends in Industrial Biotechnological skills development"
Programme Objectives :
- To create awareness amidst students and research scholars on the recent advances in biotech industrial skill development
- To provide a forum for discussing the methods of promoting industry-institute linkage
- To explore the avenues of training the biology graduates in the skills required by biotechnological industries.
Call for Papers : Full length research and review papers on the following themes can be submitted :
- Molecular biological techniques in biotech industries
- Mass production of biofertilizers and biocontrol agents
- Plant Tissue Culture
- Mushroom technology
- Nanobiotechnology
A soft copy of the paper in pdf format should be sent to the email id : kuppurajendran@rediffmail.com or jegatheesank@gmail.com Selected paper will appear in the conference proceedings with ISBN no. Two hard copies of the abstract not exceeding two hundred words neatly printed with double spacing on an A4 size paper using MS-WORD, font size 12, Times New Roman or soft copy (CD) may be sent to the Organizing Secretary on or before 13.03.15. The abstracts may also be sent to the email id mentioned above. The name of the presenting author should be highlighted.
Registration : Participants must send the attached registration form duly completed along with the prescribed registration fee through DD drawn in favor of The Principal,Thiagarajar College, Madurai payable at Madurai on or before 13.03.15. The co-authors should register and pay the fee separately. The registration fee will cover conference kit, certificate, lunch and refreshments.
