University Innovation Cluster (UIC)
For Igniting New Market Led Ideas

Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a public sector undertaking, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has been set up as an interface agency, to nurture innovation research and promote affordable product development through public-provate partnership.
- BIRAC announces the launch of Post-Doctoral and Post Master's 'BIRAC Innovation Fellowships' for nurturing market led ideas.
- University Innovation Clusters have been established by BIRAC in 5 universities as pre-incubation centres to foster innovations and enterpreneurship for Post Masters and Post-Doctoral students. Each UIC has its own unique research areas. The fellowships are highly competitive and exceptionally motivated students who have eye for innovation and drive for start-ups would be selected for the fellowships. Interested applicants can apply with their area specific research project in the concerned UIC only. Each UIC will incubate and mentor selected applicants for carrying out the innovative research.
Who can apply ? Applicantds who have completed their Masters
and PhD after 1st January 2014 for post masters and post doctoral fellowship respectively.
Scope and Support of BIRAC Innovation Fellowship :
- BIRAC Innovation Fellowships is for high level of innovation and application research in the Biotechnology sector
- BIRAC Innovation Fellowships scheme supports only up-to-Proof-of-concept stage
- BIRAC Innovation Fellowships for : Post Doc : is Rs 50 thousand per month along with BIRAC Innovation grant of Rs 5.00 lakhs per year; Post Masters is Rs 30 thousand per month with BIRAC Innovation Grant of Rs 2 lakhs per year
- Grant period is 2 years extendable to 1 more year depending upon the progress and requirement of the research project
- Mentoring support and project monitoring by UIC,BIRAC and partnered industry
