The ICGEB is an international, nonprofit research organization. Established as a special project of UNIDO, it became fully autonomous in 1994 and now counts over 60 Member States. The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology provides a scientific and educational environment of the highest standard and conducts innovative research in life sciences for the benefit of developing countries. It strengthens the research capability of its Members through training and funding programmes and advisory services and represents a comprehensive approach to promoting Biotechnology internationally.
- The ICGEB invites applications for the prestigious position of Director of itsThe ICGEB New Delhi Component currently comprises research groups focusing on infectious diseases (HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, dengue), the production of recombinant gene products, structural and computational biology, agricultural Biotechnology (plant molecular biology, biotic and abiotic stress resistance and plant transformation), synthetic biology and biofuels. Relevant funding, provided by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will ensure a gradual expansion of the Component in the years to come, through the establishment of new international research groups.
- The Director of ICGEB New Delhi will be of international scientific standing andpossess academic excellence, institutional management expertise, familiarity withIndia’s Biotechnology context, a proven
capacity to network across the internationalstakeholder community and to raise additional funds. An active, well-funded, personalresearch programme pursued in one of the focus areas of the ICGEB is also essential.The incumbent will establish effective interactions with governments of ICGEB Member States, international institutions and the scientific community worldwide,while demonstrating experience in translating scientific research into innovation andcommercialisation.
- The post is full-time and will be offered as a 5-year contract, renewable subject to performance, and will foresee an attractive salary package within the United Nations Common System at a level commensurate with the incumbent’s qualifications and experience, including participation in an international pension fund and health insurance.
