National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications for its PhD programme 2015

The National Institute of Immunology (NII) is an autonomous institution supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The Institute is committed to advanced research addressing the basic mechanisms involved in body's defence, host-pathogen interactions and related areas with a view to contribute to the creation of an internationally competitive intellectual knowledge base as a sustainable source of innovative futuristic modalities of potential use in health care.

Admission to PhD Programme for the 
Academic Year 2015-2016

National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications for its PhD programme.

Cutting-edge research at the Institute encompasses broad interdiciplinary areas :

  • Chemical Biology
  • Genetics and Cell Signalling
  • Immunity and Infection
  • Molecular and Cellular Biology
  • Reproduction and Development
  • Structural and Computational Biology

Minimum Qualification :

  • M.Sc in any branch of Science (Biology /Chemistry) or M.Tech or M.Pharma or equivalent qualification as per the norms of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi
  • At least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2), Bachelor's and Master's degree is required.

    Due relaxations in aggregate score will be applicable for SC/ST candidates. Rounding off of percentage score to next integral value is not permitted.

  • Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination this academic year may also apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the above requirements at the time of joining

Reservations of seats : 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 3% for PH as per statutory norms

Selection procedure :

NII will select candidates for the PhD programme through the following CHANNELS :

  • Entrance examination conducted by NII at New Delhi on February 22, 2015 (Sunday)
  • Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS; December 2014). The candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2014 will also have to submit a separate application to NII, New Delhi indicating their JGEEBILS hall ticket number

The candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned above. Candidates will be short listed for an interview based on their scores in JGEEBILS (December 2014) or in the NII Entrance examination (February 2015)

Note :

  • The list of candidates short listed for interviews shall be available on the website of the Institute as well as on the notice board of the institute by March 6, 2015
  • Interviews will be held at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi from June 9-11, 2015
  • Candidates selected after the interviews will be enrolled for the PhD programme in academic affliation with JNU, New Delhi
  • The candidates selected for the PhD programme would be paid second class train fare for joining the institute on providing he proof of journey

PhD Programme :

  • The programme will start on July 15, 2015
  • The Institute currently provides a fellowship stipend of Rs 16000/-, 18000/-, 20000/- per month depending on the degree qualifications
  • Shared hostel accomodation will be available on request

Application procedure :

  • Online application fee is Rs 500/- (For GEN/OBC/PH) and Rs 250/- for (SC/ST). The candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2014 will also have to submit a separate application to NII,

    New Delhi indicating their JGEEBILS hall ticket number. Candidates applying through both channel I and II should submit their application online through NII PhD admission portal.

  • Applications should be submitted online only (visit website http;//www.nii.res.in). Online application facility will be available at NII website from December 22, 2014 to January 31, 2015.
