Institute of Patent Attorneys, India (IPAI) is a unit of “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RESEARCH INSTITUTE (IPRI), NEW Delhi” and is providing professional training in Intellectual Property Rights.
I. ONE WEEK PATENT DRAFTING WORKSHOP AT IPAI, NEW Delhi.
Professional Training in Patent Law, Prior art Search & Specification Drafting.
Eligibility : - B. Sc, M. Sc, B. Tech, M. Tech, Biotechnology , B. Pharm ,M. Pharm, LL.B, Engineering, & All other Science Graduates.
Duration : One Week (17th November to 21st November 2014, 10 AM to 5 PM. )
Week End programme for working professionals (15,16, 22,23 &29 November 2014)
Syllabus :-
Introduction to Intellectual Property rights :
- It covers all aspects of intellectual property rights i.e. Patents, Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Industrial Designs and Copyright.
The Patent Law & Practice :
- It covers explanation and understanding of The Patents Act, 1970 and Rules.
Prior Art Search (WIPO, USPTO & EPO) :
- Students are advised to bring their laptops
Patent Specification Drafting .
II. SIX MONTHS CORRESPONDENCE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR PATENT AGENT EXAM PREPARATION.
Patent Agents/Attorneys
Patent Agents, also called Patent Attorneys are specialist legal advisors, similar to Lawyers, who advice their clients how to protect their intellectual property. Patent Attorneys work either in private firm of Patent Attorneys or in Patent Departments of large industrial Organizations. Patent Attorney’s day-to-day work generally involves drafting of patent specifications, making application for a patent, subsequent correspondence with the patent office on the objections raised; representing the applicant’s case at the hearings, filing opposition proceedings or defending an application against an opposition, all being of a highly technical nature is ordinarily entrusted to a qualified patent attorney. For the purpose of maintaining a high standard of efficiency and professional integrity the Patent Act has prescribed certain qualifications for persons practicing as Patent Attorneys and provided for their registration. Only person who satisfy those qualification and registered under the Patent Act are allowed to practice as Patent Attorneys in India.
Career Prospects & Placement Services.
Institute of Patent Attorneys Shall provides Placement assistance those who successfully cleared the Patent Agent Examination Conducted by the Controller of Patents. Patent Agents/Attorneys have ample number of job opportunities in Intellectual Property Law Firms, KPO/LPO, as well as Corporate Organizations. They can choose channels like in-house Advisors for different organizations or start their own Attorney’s Firms and Consultancy Services.

The Examination :
Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Govt. of India) will conduct Examination through Patent Offices at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai as per New schedule Examination. We shall forward the new schedule immediately after notification to all our candidates.
EXAM SYLLABUS
The qualifying examination shall consist of the following papers and marks, namely: -
- Paper I– Patent Act and Rules 100
- Paper II- Drafting and interpretation of Patent specification and other
- Documents - 100
- Viva Voce - 50
Total marks : 250
A candidate shall be required to secure a minimum of fifty marks in Paper-I and Paper-II and shall be declared to have passed the examination only, if he obtains an aggregate of sixty per cent of the total marks.
The training course will comprise the following: -
1. Introduction to Intellectual Property rights :
It covers all aspects of intellectual property rights i.e. Patents, Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Industrial Designs and Copyright.
2. The Patent Act and Rules :
It covers explanation and understanding of The Patents Act, 1970 with special emphasis on Paper I of the Patent Agent Examination.
3. Patent Specification Drafting and other documents & Interpretation :
It covers all the practical and technical aspects of drafting of a Patent Specification and other documents with special emphasis on Paper II of the Patent Agent Examination.
Duration : Six Months( November, 2014 to April, 2015.)
