NOTIFICATION FOR PH.D. ADMISSION 2014 - 2015
INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDY IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, GUWAHATI
- The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati is an autonomous R&D institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The institute is engaged in frontier areas of research in the specific domain of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical and Biological sciences. The institute’s aim is to contribute to basic sciences and develop technology using local resources through strong interdisciplinary research approach across different divisions. Institute is equipped with modern and sophisticated instrumentation including SEM, XRD, LCMS-MS, AFM, DNA Sequencer and computational facility for cutting edge scientific research.
- The institute invites applications against the following vacancies for admission into the PhD programme for the year 2014-15.
Area of Research : Vacancies : Basic Qualification
- Molecular basis of plant- Microbe interaction : 1 : M.Sc.(Microbiology/Biotechnology/microbial Biochemistry)
- Development of efficient fuel cell using exoelectrogenic bacteria : 1 : M.Sc.(Microbiology/Biotechnology/microbial Biochemistry)
- Microbial Bioactive Metabolite : 1 : M.Sc.(Microbiology/Biotechnology)
- Molecular analysis of diversity of human gut microbe and its implication on health1M.Sc.(Microbiology/Biotechnology)
- Muga silk worm biology and silk biomaterial : 2: M.Sc. (Zoology/Biotechnology) / Msc in Biochemistry/Biotechnology
- Traditional knowledge based health care product research : 1 : M. Sc. (Zoology with cell and molecular biology)
Eligibility : Candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission and registration within the ongoing programmes of research at IASST leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D), if he/she has obtained 55% marks in aggregate (B or B+ only in the 10 point scale) in the master’s degree examination. A candidate belonging to SC/ST who has obtained 50% marks in aggregate in master degree examination shall be eligible to apply.
Selection Procedure :
- Preference will be given to CSIR-UGC NET/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/ICAR-JRFNET/JRF qualified candidates. Selected candidates will be informed to join the Ph. D programme of IASST within a week’s time from the date of announcement of the result.
- Candidates are requested to refer to the institute’s website www.iasst.gov.in for the details of the application form and Ph. D notifications.
Application Procedure :
- Application should be submitted to the dir.iasst@nic.inregistrar@iasst.gov.in filling up of the form in the editable PDF soft copy available in the institute website. In case some problem arises for filling up the editable PDF file, the candidate should type the form on A4-size plain paper, fill-up and send. Applications sent by e-mail with scan copy of required enclosures will be accepted. The application should be sent to dir.iasst@nic.in and registrar@iasst.gov.in Each page of the typed application form should be signed by the candidate. No application fee will be charged by the Institute. The candidate should write the serial number and subject of the vacancy as listed in the previous page, for which he/she is applying on the application form as well as on the envelop containing the application.
- Applications should be accompanied by attested copies of certificates and mark sheets. Two recent passport size photographs should be enclosed. One of these should be signed by the candidate and pasted on the application form. The candidates must provide their mobile number and correct e-mail address as most of the correspondence will be done through these media. Incomplete applications and those received after the closing date will not be entertained. The decisions of the admission committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Results of written test and interview will be available in IASST website www.iasst.gov.in and all correspondence must be done through IASST emails dir.iasst@nic.in and registrar@iasst.gov.in Hard copy of the duly filled application should be sent to the Registrar, Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Paschim Boragaon, Garchuk, Guwahati-781035, so as to reach on or before 30th August, 2014.
