Organizer
Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana
DEPARTMENT OF Zoology [DST-FIST DEPARTMENT : The Department of Zoology came into existence in June 2009 under the able leadership of Prof. Vineeta Shukla, being founder Head of Department. Since beginning, Department is engaged in running Post Graduate Courses in Zoology and Genomics, the later one started in session 2012-13. The Department has successfully organized 04 National Seminars and also published the proceedings every year with ISBN No. Department has highly qualified, experienced and committed faculty. The faculty members of the Department are actively engaged in quality research in all major thrust areas of Zoology. The Department is funded by DST-FIST and UGC.
BRIEF INFORMATION OF SEMINAR : THEMES OF SEMINAR : The seminar will focus on the new dynamic era of science and technology which is now unfolding before our eyes, in the coming next 100 years, and beyond. The next era of science promises to be an even deeper, more thoroughgoing, more penetrating one than the last. Clearly, we are on the threshold of yet another revolution. Human knowledge is doubling every ten years. In the past decade, more scientific knowledge has been created than in all of human history. Computer power is doubling every eighteen months. The Internet is doubling every year. The number of DNA sequences we can analyze is doubling every two years. Almost daily, the headlines herald new advances in various fields of life sciences like Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology etc. and also in the fields of other sciences like physics, chemistry etc. From now to the year 2020 and beyond, scientists foresee an explosion in scientific activity such as the world has never seen before. In two key technologies, computer power and DNA sequencing, we will see entire industries rise and fall on the basis of breathtaking scientific advances. In the wake of this technological upheaval, entire industries and lifestyles are being overturned, only to give rise to entirely new ones. But these rapid, bewildering changes are not just quantitative. They mark the birth pangs of a new era.
